Drew Estate produces the high-end, coffee-infused Tabak Especial Medio Robusto by hand in Nicaragua. This brand, which was created over a five-year period by master blender Jonathan Drew, refines the flavour-infusion methods first discovered during the development of the Kahlúa Cigars Delicioso.
The Medio Robusto combines a gentle, organic infusion of estate-grown Nicaraguan coffee with the classic richness of matured Nicaraguan tobaccos. The coffee infusion blends in seamlessly to produce a velvety, sweet taste profile rather than overpowering the tobacco.
First Third: Creamy and sweet. Because of the sweet-tipped top, the encounter starts with an instant surge of sweetness. Notes of delicious vanilla, creamy milk chocolate, and a mild, sugary café au lait dominate the first draws. The thick, velvety smoke has a subtle cedar undertone. At this point, practically all of the natural tobacco bitterness is hidden by the coffee infusion, which is at its strongest.
Second Third: Rich and well-balanced. The taste profile shifts into a deeper, more harmonious smoke as the sweetened cap naturally disappears. The flavours of milk chocolate develop into a delicious blend of milk chocolate and smooth espresso. Complexity is added by the subtle hints of warm caramel and toasted nuts. The matured Nicaraguan tobaccos' natural flavours start to show through, creating a smooth, firm foundation that goes well with the coffee infusion.
Final third: the sugary sweetness takes a back seat. The profile shifts toward dark cocoa, robust espresso, and black coffee. A mild hint of black pepper and earthiness introduces itself on the retrohale, giving the cigar a slightly stronger, traditional finish. It remains smooth and free of harshness, leaving a lingering aftertaste of dark chocolate and roasted coffee beans.
