A Highland single malt Scotch whisky, The Macallan 12 Year Old Double Cask emphasises the harmony between two varieties of sherry-seasoned oak. It was first introduced in 2016 and has since grown to be a mainstay of the brand's main line.

American Oak Sherry Casks: These are from Ohio, Missouri, and Kentucky woods. With strong notes of vanilla, honey, and creamy butterscotch, they add a sweeter, "American-style" profile.

European Oak Sherry Casks: From the Pyrenees in France and northern Spain. These supply the wood spice, citrus, and dried fruit that make up the typical Macallan backbone.
