Three separate thirds make up the smooth and sophisticated flavour progression of the Gurkha Cellar Reserve 18 Year Edition Especial:
The first third of the cigar begins with a steady undercurrent of sweetness and a vibrant blast of white pepper. There are also strong first notes of leather and a classic woodsy flavour that is frequently referred to as cedar. The strength begins as a solid medium, and the smoke is typically creamy.
Second, third: A rich, deep earthiness develops as the cigar moves into the middle third, giving the already-existing flavour profile a grounded balance. Throughout, the sweetness remains a recurring note that counterbalances the developing flavours. The initial sharpness of the white pepper subsides, and subtleties of dark chocolate, cashews, and roasted coffee beans may emerge, adding to the experience's complexity and depth of flavour.
Final third: The flavour profile continues to change in the last phases. A calm ending results from the middle third's powerful earthiness softening into a more subdued and sophisticated earth sound. The cigar keeps its creamy texture as the notes of wood and leather become more intense. While the body stays in the medium-to-full range, a last, intriguing hint of spice or dried fruit may appear to complete the smoke.
