Trinidad is named after the stunning city of La Santísima Trinidad (The Holy Trinity), located on the south coast of Cuba and recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the 16th century.
Although Trinidad has been a Havana brand since 1969, it was only produced as presents for foreign ambassadors for many years, much like Cohiba. It wasn't put on the market until 1998, and even then, only in limited amounts.
There was only one size of Fundadores at first, but over time, more were added. Three more sizes were added in 2003: Reyes, Coloniales, and Robusto Extra. The Robusto T was added in 2009. In 2011, Habanos S.A. said that Robusto Extras and Robusto Ts would no longer be produced regularly. The 2009 redesign of Trinidad's livery and cigar band acknowledged the brand's reputation.
Trinidad's distinctively fragrant and aromatic, medium-flavored blend of filler and binder leaves from the Vuelta Abajo region was developed at the Cohiba facility, El Laguito, where it was produced for a number of years.
It was determined that all of the brand's sizes should be manufactured in Pinar del Rio City by the end of 2004 because the demand for Trinidad had beyond El Laguito's production capability. Today, Trinidad is located among the well-known Vuelta Abajo plantations.
All sizes are "Tripa larga, totalmente a mano," meaning they are produced entirely by hand with lengthy filler.
Cigar Aficionado 2016 ranked VIGIA at number 14.
Vigía gets its name from the watchtowers that were built to monitor the sugarcane fields near Trinidad, Cuba. In the Habanos portfolio, which was launched in 2014, this aromatic and approachable cigar has a special size.
