The first in the Emissary series, the Macanudo Emissary España is a highly regarded, medium-bodied cigar that is praised for its distinctive five-country blend that includes rare, 10-year-aged Havana-seed tobacco cultivated in Spain.
The mix is made with heavily aged tobaccos rolled in Honduras from five separate nations.
First Third: With prominent aromas of cracked black pepper and a nice earthiness, the first light gives a surge of flavour. With traces of baking spices, caramel, and graham crackers in the background, this soon settles into a creamy character of chocolate and cedar.
Second Third: As the initial spice fades, the second third becomes more intricate. An increasing nuttiness (almond/pecan) and increasingly noticeable caramel sweetness counterbalance the rich aromas of dark chocolate and medium-roast coffee. The smoke is still sweet and creamy.
Last Third: The tastes are concentrated in the last third, creating a stronger finish. Leather, a stronger oak or cedar, and dark roast coffee (nearly espresso) take over. A rich, earthy, spicy finish that is smooth to the nub replaces the sweetness, which is less noticeable.
With its medium body, creamy texture, and hints of cedar, caramel, coffee, and spice, the Macanudo Emissary España goes well with drinks that can enhance its complex blend without overpowering its subtle tastes.
