One of the most adaptable "all-rounder" single malt Scotch whisky is Highland Park 12 Year Old. It is renowned for striking a balance between sweet heather honey and a subtle, fragrant peat smoke. It is distilled in Kirkwall in the Orkney Islands.
The Blend: Its natural amber hue and spicy-sweet profile come from first-fill, sherry-seasoned European and American oak barrels.
Unusual Peat: Highland Park employs Orkney heathered peat, which produces a flowery, wood-smoke scent instead of the medicinal, seaweed-heavy peat of Islay (like Laphroaig).
Recent Rebrand: In 2024, the bottle's massively embossed "Viking Honour" style was replaced with a sleeker, more subdued appearance. The liquid inside doesn't change.
