Premier Cigars, Pipes and Tobacco
Nose: Not so much Lapsang Souchong as it is Lapsang Souchong tea! One of Islay's smokiest noses. It is large, quite intense, and smells of creamy vanilla, fragrant spices, iodine, and good, mature Sherry. Gorgeous.
Palate: really rich and thick. A huge taste of Sherry and malt with a fantastic sweetness and a good fruity sweetness. Large, strong oak and peat.
Finish: Figs, dates, peat smoke, vanilla, and a long, spicy finish.
ABV%: 43
Pairing: Viva la vida, My Father blue, Macanudo French oak, Joya Cabinetta, Camacho Ecuador, Magnum 54, My Father Don Pepin Blue, Partagas serie D No.4.
Origin: Islay Whisky
A classic Islay whisky is Lagavulin 16 Year Old. With rich overtones of dried fruit, vanilla, and smokiness from Islay peat, it has a deep, earthy, and marine character that is adored. Its profile is more similar to that of Lapsang Souchong tea.
The distillery had offer a 12-year-old single malt prior to Lagavulin 16. However, Lagavulin 16 Year Old became the distillery's main bottling when Diageo developed the Classic Malt line in the 1980s. After appearing as Nick Offerman's character Ron Swanson's preferred beverage in Parks and Recreation, it gained popularity. Since then, Offerman has worked with the distillery on multiple occasions.
Try highly flavoured salty blue cheeses if you're searching for a dish to go with this beauty. They go very well with the strong, peat-rich, sweet, and salty flavour of this Lagavulin.
