The village of San Juan y Martinez, located in the centre of the Vuelta Abajo zone, is where Hoyo de Monterrey had its start. The town's main centre has a gate that reads, "Hoyo de Monterrey. Jose Gener. 1960." This gate leads to the Hoyo de Monterrey plantation, one of the great Vegas de Primera.
"Hoyo" meaning "hole" in this context refers to the plantation's low-lying location on the fertile banks of the San Juan y Martinez River. In 1865, Jose Gener, a Spaniard from Tarragona, used his vegetable's name for the first time on a Habanos brand.
Those looking for a delicate yet fragrant Habano that is lighter in taste but has a great deal of refinement and complexity will find Hoyo de Monterrey's blend to be an appealing option due to its flavour.
The company is well-known for its Double Corona and the esteemed Epicure series, which includes the No. 1 and No. 2 models. In 2008, the lengthier Epicure Especial was added to the lineup. Additionally, there is a line of vitolas called the Le Hoyo Series. Most people agree that these are a tad stronger and spicier than the brand's traditional line.
