The renowned Turrent family, the driving force behind Casa Turrent and Te-Amo, produces Macarena, a line of high-quality, reasonably priced Mexican cigars, at their Nueva Matacapan de Tabacos facility in San Andrés, Mexico. The Macarena line is intended to be a pleasant, approachable, and reasonably priced "everyday smoke" in contrast to the upscale boutique lines of the main Casa Turrent brand.
First Third: Toast & Earth Dominant Notes: Toasted wood and deep volcanic earth. Light floral undertones and a subtle, organic cocoa sweetness are the supporting flavours. Sensation: With a simple, rustic Mexican tobacco flavour and a little pepper bite, it is smooth and approachable.
Bread and Cocoa in the Second Third Transition: Softer, sweeter undertones start to show as the initial earthiness fades. Graham crackers, toasted bread, and dry chocolate are the dominant notes. Supporting flavours include a hint of herbal tea and subtle cedar. Sensation: The firm, mild-to-medium body of the smoke is preserved, but its texture gets slightly creamier.
Last Third: Mild Spice & Wood-Rich dirt and dark cedar are the predominant notes. Black coffee, leather, and a very mild baking spice are the supporting flavours. Sensation: As it burns down to the nub, the flavour somewhat darkens but stays smooth and neither bitter nor overpowering.
