Appearance: varies from a murky, mature tawny or clear garnet with a lot of natural sediment to a medium purple-ruby colour.

Nose: Fresh raspberry, chocolate, marmalade, caramel, and dried fruits are the main flavours, and there's a distinct warmth from the alcohol and brandy.

Palate: Silky, medium tannins frame the aromas of fig, sultana and ripe raspberry in this full-bodied, tightly linked dish with a compact structure.

Finish: Fruity and fresh, although some observers point out that the final finish may show signs of ageing or tail off.

      ABV%: 21%

      Origin: Douro Valley

Pairing: Lunar Cameroon, Montecristo Edmundo/double, Wise Man Maduro, My Father the Judge, Davidoff The Late Hour

Major publications gave it moderate grades, such as an 80 from Wine Spectator and an 83 from Wine Advocate.

Produced under the iconic brand established by London wine trader Richard Hooper, the 1985 Hooper's Vintage Port is a classic, robust fortified wine from Portugal's Douro Valley. This vintage, which is fully integrated under Real Companhia Velha, the oldest wine firm in Portugal, is mostly dependent on quality fruit from the well-known Quinta Nova vineyard. It is intended for substantial bottle ageing because it is a single-year vintage Port. Although critics see this wine as a palatable, modest reflection of the renowned 1985 vintage rather than a remarkable standout, it is a respectable, typical example of Douro winemaking in the 1980s.

Present Drinking Window: Completely developed and far into the tertiary stage. It creates "sediment for days," thus it needs to be thoroughly decanted before serving.
