A premium Nicaraguan puro, the Plasencia Alma Fuerte Colorado Claro Robustus II (sometimes called the Robusto II) is distinguished by its round vitola and distinctive 10-year-aged wrapper. This particular model has a round parejo form with a lighter crimson Colorado Claro wrapper, in contrast to the original box-pressed Alma Fuerte line.
Compared to the original line, the Colorado Claro Robustus II is renowned for having a creamier and more balanced taste profile. This is the breakdown.
First Third: Salty pretzels and toasted cedar are the predominant notes. There is very little spice on the palate and a pronounced "bakery" sweetness, similar to graham crackers or new dough.
Second third: The profile gets creamier in the second third. There are hints of café au lait and roasted almonds. A mild white pepper starts to emerge on the retrohale, and the initial saltiness changes into a savoury, mineral flavour.
Last Third: There is a minor increase in intensity. Richer earthiness underpins the dominance of nutmeg and dark chocolate. The sweetness fades into a lingering, woodsy flavour, and the aftertaste is clean.
