A minor amount of black air-cured Indian leaf is added to the mostly dark-fired leaf that makes up the British-made Twist tobacco known as Kendal Black Irish X.

This is the smallest of the three Irish X tobaccos because the twist gets thicker the more Xs there are in the name.

Brown twist is used to make Black twist after it has been cooked under pressure one more time, turning it black. While the Black Twist provides a less intense smoke than the Brown Twist, it still has a strong, pungent flavour and is not advised for beginners because the cooking process in the Black Twist eliminates some of the heavier tar and nicotine components.

This black Kendal is rich and robust when steam-cooked. This tobacco, which is made from fire-cured leaves, offers a broad range of tastes, including woodsy, earthy, leathery, spicy, and smoky. It is also incredibly smooth and cool to smoke.
