The Corojo version's zippy spice is replaced by rich chocolate and "brownie" sweetness in the darker, richer Perla Del Mar Maduro Toro. It's a box-pressed Nicaraguan cigar from the United States wrapped in a tough, black leaf.

Nicaraguan is the filler. a complicated mixture of long-fillers from four different areas: Jalapa, Pueblo Nuevo, La Reina, and Condega.

First third: The retrohale has strong flavours of black coffee bean and dark dirt with a subtle sweetness reminiscent of liquorice.

Second third: The coffee's "bitterness" fades, giving way to a rich, semi-sweet chocolate and nutty flavour that many liken to a brownie.

Last third: Earthier notes of leather and roasted oak replace the sweetness. For a strong finish, black pepper spice is used again.
