The Aganorsa Leaf La Validación Corojo (formerly known as the Casa Fernandez Aganorsa Leaf Corojo) is a box-pressed, regular-production Nicaraguan puro designed to showcase the company's signature Cuban-seed Corojo '99 wrapper.
The name "La Validación" (Spanish for validation) is a nod to the company’s internal quality control process—coined by president Paul Palmer—where the blending team constantly "validates" the quality, draw, and construction of their tobaccos before they are shipped out.
First Third: The Bold Awakening
The cigar opens with a classic, robust Nicaraguan greeting. A sharp burst of black pepper and red pepper spice dominates the retrohale initially, but quickly settles down to let the base flavours shine.
Primary Notes: Deep earthiness, damp cedar, and rich leather.
Undertones: A subtle, dark cocoa bitterness and a hint of charred oak.
Experience: Medium-to-full in body right out of the gate, with a thick, aromatic smoke texture.
Second Third: The Creamy Sweet Spot
As the burn line crosses into the second third, the aggressive pepper notes take a back seat, and the estate-grown Criollo '98 filler leaves begin to work their magic, introducing a velvety smoothness.
Primary Notes: A transition into roasted hazelnut, creamy espresso, and dark chocolate.
Undertones: A natural, fruit-like sweetness—often described as dried apricot or cherry—develops, perfectly balancing the earthy base.
Experience: This is the most complex and balanced part of the cigar, where the strength holds steady at a solid medium-plus, while the smoke becomes noticeably creamier.
Final Third: The Robust Crescendo
In the final stretch, the oils from the dark Corojo '99 wrapper concentrate, driving the strength and body up to full. The sweetness fades away, giving way to a warm, savoury, and powerful finish.
Primary Notes: Heavy charcoal, intense black pepper, and toasted cedar.
Undertones: Black coffee, leather, and a sharp, tingling spice that lingers on the palate.
Experience: The heat remains well-controlled owing to the box-pressed construction, allowing you to smoke it down to the nub without it becoming overly bitter, provided you pace your puffs.
