The Montecristo Shorts are a small, machine-made Cuban cigar crafted for quick, flavour-packed breaks. They're ideal for a brief 10-to-15-minute smoke when you fancy the unmistakable taste of a proper Havana cigar but are pressed for time.
Unlike smaller, traditional cigarillos (such as the Montecristo Mini or Club), the Shorts feature a thicker, stockier ring gauge, enabling them to deliver a richer, more authentic hit of classic Montecristo flavour.
First Third: The Burst: Earth & Espresso As the short-filler tobacco catches alight instantly along its whole length, there's no "warming up" stage. The very first draw hits the palate with a thick, medium-to-full-bodied cloud of traditional Montecristo smoke.
Dominant Notes: Bitter espresso bean, damp earth, and a strong, dry cedar woodiness.
Texture: The smoke feels thick, slightly dry, and heavy on the tongue right from the off.
Retrohale: Sharp and clean, delivering a distinct kick of white pepper.
Second Third: The Sweet Spot: Dark Cocoa & Cream By the five-to-eight-minute mark, the cigarillo reaches its absolute peak balance. The initial harshness of lighting it up fades away, revealing a natural, rich sweetness that rounds off the heavy earth notes.
Dominant Notes: Dark plain chocolate, roasted hazelnuts, and a gentle hint of treacle-like sweetness.
The Transition: The bitter espresso note from the start mellows into a smoother, creamier white coffee profile.
Retrohale: The white pepper softens slightly, giving way to a warm, baking-spice aroma (such as nutmeg or cinnamon).
Final Third: The Nub: Black Pepper & Roasted Tobacco. With the cherry now sitting less than an inch from your lips, the smoke becomes drastically warmer. The oils and nicotine concentrate rapidly, turning the profile heavy, robust, and unapologetically intense.
Dominant Notes: Heavy black pepper, charred oak, and pure, concentrated Cuban tobacco.
The Finish: Any remaining sweetness vanishes. The finish becomes exceptionally long, hot, and dry, leaving a powerful, lingering taste of plain dark chocolate and leather on the palate.
Warning Sign: If you draw too quickly at this stage, the cigar will instantly turn bitter and bite your tongue. Slow down to one gentle puff every 45 seconds to keep those final moments enjoyable.
