Outstanding, robust, oily, and bursting with richness and scent. This smoke is fantastic. The taste, burn, and draw are all excellent.

"This long cigar burns evenly and draws floral at first. A hint of caramel, a rush of cinnamon, and creamy flavours of almond and vanilla quickly emerge. There is a hint of honey in the end. complex and intricate."

Located in the centre of the Vuelta Abajo zone, the municipality of San Juan y Martinez is where Hoyo de Monterrey got its start. The town's main centre has a gate that reads, "Hoyo de Monterrey. Jose Gener. 1960." A gate leads to the Hoyo de Monterrey plantation, one of the great Vegas de Primera.

The word "hoyo," which translates to "hole," refers to the plantation's low-lying location on the lush banks of the San Juan y Martinez River. The name of his vega was originally applied to a brand of Habanos in 1865 by Jose Gener, a Spaniard from Tarragona.

Those looking for a delicate yet fragrant Habano that is lighter in taste but has a great deal of refinement and complexity will find Hoyo de Monterrey's blend to be an appealing option due to its flavour.

The company is well-known for its Double Corona and the esteemed Epicure series, which includes the No. 1 and No. 2 models. In 2008, the lengthier Epicure Especial was added to the lineup. Additionally, there is a line of vitolas called the Le Hoyo Series. Most people agree that these are a tad stronger and spicier than the brand's traditional line.

Every size is "tripalarga, totalmente a mano," or lengthy filler, created entirely by hand with binder and filler leaves from the tobacco zone of Vuelta Abajo.

A powerful cigar with a taste that is surprisingly mild and smooth. When a late '80s example received a 99 out of 100 rating in the second issue of Cigar Aficionado, it shot to fame. It's still a cigar worth considering.
