Charatan 1873 Churchill review - A uniquly British blend that I will go back to again
Hello, My names Codie and today I will be reviewing the Charatan Churchill,
Charatan is a cigar designed specifically for the British cigar smoker, with a mild blend of Seco, Ligero, and Volado filler leaves bonded with an Indonesian binder from Besuki and wrapped in shade grown Java. Charatan has a history steeped in British culture dating back to 1910. After years of pipe manufacture they turned their attention in more recent times to Tobacco then Cigars, put together at the Joya de Nicuragua factory arguably the most prestegious Cigar manufactuar in Nicuragua
First Impressions
I have to first say the construction of this Cigar is absolutly fantastic, you can feel the quality when you lightly rub the cigar between two fingers and after a nice smooth straight cut with my favourite stainless steel cutter I took a cold draw, the circulation was as you would expect from a preimum cigar a good amount of air blowing through, a slight taste preview comes with the cold draw and the main note i got was a toasted flavour with a hint of spice.
First Third
The burn on this Cigar was fantastic, great puffs of creamy smoke, A coffee taste with leathery notes secondary to it topped with a hint of Vanilla, As some whiskey blues played in the background I indulged in the increasing ramp up of the profile coming into the second.
Second Third
As the Cigar developed the Vanilla faded into a more earthy taste, the construction remained ideal, a great pillar of white ash was maintained almost until half way when I decided it would be better dropped in the ashtray than my lap. The Final difference i noticed was a develpment of A black pepper taste that tingled around in my mouth.
Final Third
As i got to the end of this Cigar more earthy flavours came to the forefront, followed by an almost dark Chocolate/Cacao taste.
Concluding thoughts
Cigars are great for a number of reasons depnding who you ask and their subjective view point, personally Cigars serve me on a medative way and i also use them socially to envoke good conversation, This Cigar i enjoyed in Solituide after a morning of work to wind down for the weekend, at the Price of £16.63 (promotional price but even still they are only a few quid more usually) This Cigar had a simple but VERY effective taste profile, This is the first Churchill I have smoked so i took me around 2 1/2 hours in total, the value and quality of this Cigar is not to be understated, I would give it a 9/10, a definite buy again!
