Who are montecristo?
Alonso Menéndez purchased the Particulares Factory in July 1935, which produced the Particulares brand as well as the lesser-known Byron. He formed the Montecristo brand immediately after purchasing it. The name of the brand was inspired by Alexandre Dumas père's work The Count of Monte Cristo, which was reputedly a highly popular novel among the torcedores (cigar rollers) in their factory to have read by the lector on the rolling floor. John Hunter Morris and Elkan Co. Ltd., the brand's British distributor, created the Montecristo emblem, which consists of a triangle of six swords enclosing a fleur-de-lis. The Montecristo brand became tremendously popular internationally because to the efforts of the Alfred Dunhill firm, and it now accounts for nearly one-quarter of Habanos SA's worldwide cigar sales, making it the most popular Cuban cigar in the world. Menéndez and Garcia escaped during the Cuban Revolution, and on September 15, 1960, the Montecristo brand, factory, and all assets were nationalised by Fidel Castro's government.
