Trinidad is named after the picturesque 16th-century city of La Santisima Trinidad (The Holy Trinity), a UNESCO World Heritage Site located on Cuba's south coast.
Trinidad, as a Habano brand, dates back to 1969, although for many years, like Cohiba, it was solely produced as gifts for foreign ambassadors. It wasn't offered for widespread sale until 1998, and then in modest quantities.
Originally, Trinidad came in only one size: Fundadores. In 2003, three new sizes were added to the lineup: the Reyes, Coloniales, and Robusto Extra. At the same time, Trinidad's livery and cigar band were modified to reflect the status that the brand enjoyed. Most recently, in 2009, the Trinidad Robusto T was developed to expand the brand's offerings.
For several years, Trinidad was produced at El Laguito, the Cohiba facility, where its distinctively fragrant and aromatic, medium-flavored blend of filler and binder leaves from the Vuelta Abajo zone was created.
